The Gold Coast is the sixth-largest city in Australia. It is one of the coastal cities in the Australian state of Queensland. Around 66 kilometres (41 mi) south-southeast of the state capital Brisbane and north of the border with New South Wales, the Gold Coast is home to a population of 569,997. This makes it the largest non-capital city, and Queensland’s second-largest city. The sunny subtropical climate combined with the world famous surfing beaches has made the Gold Coast is a major tourist destination today.

Tourists also visit this place for its high-rise dominated skyline, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland. A major film industry along with various television productions has made Gold Coast an integral part of the nation’s entertainment industry. Thus, it can rightfully be said that Hedonism takes center stage in Gold Coast. The 21st Commonwealth Games from 4 to 15 April 2018 were conducted here.

The Gold Coast Light Rail, or G:Link as it’s known, is the fastest and most convenient way of traveling around and links the most densely populated districts of the city. Gold Coast has many public and private schools, most of which have been built recently to cater for the booming population. Griffith University and Bond University are the two universities that are located here. The Gold Coast area hosts Australia’s largest ‘Schoolies’ celebration, which is a three-week graduation festival celebrated by Year 12 school leavers from every corner of Australia.

In the last fifty years, Gold Coast City has grown exceptionally from a small beachside holiday destination to Australia’s sixth largest city (and the country’s most populous non-capital city). Situated within South East Queensland’s growth corridor, the Gold Coast is one of Australia’s fastest growing large cities.
