Located right at the top of Australia in the Northern Territory, Darwin is Australia’s hottest capital city. There are many other reasons why you should study in Darwin, besides its breathtaking landscapes. It is the capital city of the Northern Territory of Australia, situated on the Timor Sea. Home to a population of 148,564, it is the largest city in the sparsely populated Northern Territory. It is the smallest, wettest and most northerly of the Australian capital cities, and acts as the Top End’s regional centre.

Whilst studying in Darwin, you’ll be able to tour the more sizeable area around the city. Just imagine being around wondrous stretches of desert, evelvated natural megaliths, swimming holes and absolutely unimaginable natural sights like the breathtaking Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge, world-famous Uluru, Kakadu National Park and the Karlu Karlu Devil’s Marbles. Don’t forget to catch the Field of Light installation in the Uluru heartland, which is in place until 2020.

In the bigger cities, applying for opportunities – scholarships, mentorships, work placements, and so on – can sometimes be overwhelming. And with so many fellow students all vying for the same placements, it can be difficult to secure a spot. But that is not the case in Darwin. Here, you will find ample opportunities for generous scholarships available and there is a high probability of less competition for scholarship places in a smaller city like Darwin. The two largest sectors that drive the economy are mining and tourism. Thanks to its strategic location, Darwin serves as a “gateway” for Australian travelers to Asia.

Darwin’s largest University is the Charles Darwin University, which is the central provider of tertiary education in the Northern Territory. It covers both vocational and academic courses, acting as both a university and an Institute of TAFE. There are over 5,500 students enrolled in tertiary and further education courses.
