Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, Australia’s sunshine state. Its sub-tropical climate and dynamic economy are attracting large numbers of migrants. It has a population of around two and half million people who enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in a beautiful, spacious city. The beautiful Brisbane River flows through the heart of the city. Around one-quarter of Brisbane’s residents were born overseas. Despite having over two million inhabitants, Brisbane is quieter than the larger cities of Sydney and Melbourne. Brisbane, unlike other big cities in Australia, is not situated on the coast. A 1 hour drive away from the city will take you to the famous Gold and Sunshine Coasts.

Today, Brisbane is well known for its distinct Queenslander architecture which forms much of the city’s built heritage. The city is a popular tourist destination, serving as a gateway to the state of Queensland, particularly to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, popular resort areas immediately south and north of Brisbane respectively. Several large cultural, international and sporting events have been held at Brisbane, including the 1982 Commonwealth Games, World Expo ’88, the final Goodwill Games in 2001, and the 2014 G-20 summit. In 2016, the Globalization and World Cities Research Network ranked Brisbane as a Beta world city. It hosts big number of international students in some of the best universities like Australian Catholic University (ACU), University of Sunshine Coast (USC), Central Queensland University (CQU), Griffith University (GU) and many more.
