ABOUT
  • This Authority is for international airline crew who don’t have an Australian or New Zealand passport, or a valid Australian visa who travel to and from Australia as they work.
  • It lets them be checked through the Advance Passenger Processing system before flying to Australia.
  • The CTA registration is valid for the life of the passport based on the passport expiry date
STAY
  • International airline crew members and safety inspectors – up to 30 days as holder of a special purpose visa
  • Airline positioning crew members – up to 5 days as holder of a special purpose visa

  • Be registered as crew by your air carrier

MARITIME CREW VISA

ABOUT
  • This visa is for foreign crew on non-military ships on international voyages to enter Australia by sea.
  • It is also for the partner or dependent child of a foreign crew member.
  • Can only perform work in Australia as a crew member that meets the normal operational requirements of your ship
  • Can arrive and depart Australia by sea as a crew member of a non-military ship

  • Can stay for as long as you are a crew member of a non-military ship that is Australia
ELIGIBILITY
  • Be outside Australia when you apply
  • Be a crew member or have a current offer to be a crew member on a non-military ship that is taking an international voyage to Australia
  • Not be the holder of a permanent Australian visa
  • Not had a refused application or cancelled visa
  • Can’t enter Australia by air only holding this visa
  • Can’t stay as a visitor or tourist, or permanently

SUPERYACHT CREW

Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408)
ABOUT
  • This visa lets you work in Australia as a crew member of a superyacht. You can stay here for up to 12 months.
STAY

  • Can leave and re-enter Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid
ELIGIBILITY
  • Have a contract to work as a superyacht crew member
  • A letter from the owner of the superyacht confirming the person’s employment as a member of the crew of the vessel

ABOUT
  • This visa allows you to visit, study, and work as long as you remain a New Zealand citizen.

Seasonal Worker Program Stream

Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403)
ABOUT
  • This visa stream lets you come to Australia temporarily to participate in the Seasonal Worker Program.
  • Can work as a seasonal labourer in selected industries for Australian employers who can't source local labour
STAY
  • Can stay until the time specified in your visa grant notice, which may be up to 9 months
  • Can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while your visa is valid
ELIGIBILITY
  • Must be invited by an Australian employer who is a Temporary Activities Sponsor
  • Be a citizen of and resident in Timor-Leste, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu
  • Be outside Australia when you apply and when we make a decision on your application
  • Be able to support yourself
  • Must usually be 21 years or older
  • Meet the genuine temporary stay requirement
  • Meet health and character requirement
  • Must have adequate health insurance
  • Not have visa cancelled or previous application refused

Staff Exchange Arrangements

Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408)
ABOUT
  • This visa lets you come to Australia as part of a staff exchange with an Australian organisation
  • You and your family members who travel here on the visa with you can stay for up to 2 years
STAY
  • Up to 2 years
  • Can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while your visa is valid
ELIGIBILITY
  • Must have the skills and experience to exchange jobs with an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Must have a sponsor or a supporter
  • The exchange arrangement must benefit both you and the Australian citizen or permanent resident taking part
  • Be a genuine temporary entrant
  • Be able to support yourself and any dependants
  • Have adequate health insurance
  • Meet health and character requirement
  • Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused

Pacific Labour Scheme Stream

Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403)
ABOUT
  • This visa stream lets you come to Australia to participate in the Pacific Labour Scheme program
  • Can work in Australia for a Temporary Activities sponsor endorsed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to participate in the Pacific Labour Scheme
  • Can work for no more than 3 years in rural and regional Australia
STAY
  • Can stay until the time specified in your visa grant notice, which may be up to 3 years
  • Can travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while your visa is valid
ELIGIBILITY
  • Must be a resident of a specified Pacific Island country
  • Must be invited by an Australian employer endorsed by DFAT who is a Temporary Activities sponsor
  • Must be endorsed by DFAT to participate in the Pacific Labour Scheme program
  • Must usually be aged at least 21 and under 45 when you apply
  • Meet the genuine temporary stay requirement
  • Meet health and character requirement
  • Must have adequate health insurance
  • Not have visa cancelled or previous application refused
