Bridging visa A (BVA)

subclass 010
ABOUT
  • This temporary visa generally allows you to stay in Australia after your current substantive visa ceases and while your new substantive visa application is being processed
  • Can work, if you meet the requirements for work
  • A BVA will end immediately if the following situations occur:
    1. you leave Australia while your BVA is in effect
    2. you are granted the substantive visa you applied for
    3. you are granted another Bridging visa (such as a BVB) in relation to the same substantive visa application that this BVA is associated with
    4. either your BVA or the substantive visa that you held when you were granted the BVA is cancelled

  • Must hold or have held a substantive visa
  • Must be in Australia when you apply
  • Must have made a valid application for a substantive visa that has not been finally determined
  • If you meet all eligibility requirements, be in Australia at the time of grant

Bridging visa B (BVB)

subclass 020
ABOUT
  • With this visa, you can leave and return to Australia during a specified travel period while your application for a substantive visa is being processed
  • Can work, if your BVB permits
STAY
  • Temporarily
ELIGIBILITY
  • Must hold or have held a substantive visa
  • Must be in Australia when you apply for this visa
  • Must be the holder of a BVA or a BVB
  • Must have applied in Australia for a substantive visa that can be granted while you are in Australia
  • Must have a substantial reason for wanting to leave and return to Australia while your substantive visa application is being considered
  • If you meet all eligibility requirements, be in Australia at the time of grant

Bridging visa C (BVC)

subclass 030
ABOUT
  • This temporary visa generally allows you to stay in Australia after your current substantive visa ceases and while your new substantive visa application is being processed
  • Can work, if you meet the requirements for work
STAY
  • Temporarily
ELIGIBILITY
  • Must not hold a Bridging visa E (BVE) and you must not have held a BVE since you last held a substantive visa
  • When you lodged your application for a substantive visa, you must not have held a substantive visa
  • Must be in Australia when you apply for this visa
  • Must have made a valid application for a substantive visa that has not been finally determined

Bridging visa E (BVE)

Subclass 050 and 051
ABOUT
  • This visa lets you stay lawfully in Australia while you make arrangements to leave, finalize your immigration matter or wait for an immigration decision
STAY
  • Temporarily
ELIGIBILITY
  • Must comply with all Australian laws
  • Must be in Australia when the application is decided (this also applies to anyone included in your application)

Bridging visa E (BVE)

subclass 050
ABOUT
  • This visa lets you stay lawfully in Australia while you make arrangements to leave, finalize your immigration matter or wait for an immigration decision
STAY
  • Temporarily
ELIGIBILITY
  • Must comply with all Australian laws
  • Must be in Australia when the application is lodged and in order to be granted this visa, you must be in Australia when a decision is made

Bridging visa E (BVE)

subclass 051
ABOUT
  • This visa lets you stay in Australia while your Protection visa application is being processed
STAY
  • Temporarily
ELIGIBILITY
  • Have been refused immigration clearance or bypassed immigration clearance and come to our notice within 45 days, and all of the following apply to you
  • Must have applied for a protection visa
  • Must be in immigration detention
  • Meet other specific requirements

Resident Return visa

visa subclass 155 and 157
ABOUT
  • If you leave Australia after your travel validity expires, or it expires when you are outside Australia, you will not be able to return to Australia as a permanent resident
STAY
  • Permanently
  • Can travel in and out of Australia as many times as you want until the travel validity expires
  • The validity varies depending on your circumstances
ELIGIBILITY
  • You must be either
    1. an Australian permanent resident
    2. a former Australian permanent resident whose last permanent visa was not cancelled
    3. a former Australian citizen who lost or renounced Australian citizenship
  • Meet our residence or substantial ties requirements
    You must either:
    1. have lived in Australia for 2 years (730 days) in the last 5 years as the holder of a permanent visa (or entry permit), or as an Australian citizen
    2. be able to demonstrate substantial ties to Australia that are of benefit to Australia
  • Not hold an Authority to Return or Return Endorsement
  • Not have cancellation action against your business skills visa
  • Not have had a visa cancelled or a previous application refused

Investor Retirement visa

subclass 405
ABOUT
  • This information is for former holders of Norfolk Island entry permits. This visa lets you remain in Australia indefinitely. You can travel overseas and return to Australia as a permanent resident until the travel component of your visa expires
STAY
  • Permanently
ELIGIBILITY
  • You can only apply for this visa if you are”
    1. An existing investor retirement visa (subclass 405) holder; or
    2. A former Investor Retirement visa (subclass 405) holder who has not held another substantive visa since entering Australia

Confirmatory (Residence)

subclass 808
ABOUT
  • This information is for former holders of Norfolk Island entry permits. This visa lets you remain in Australia indefinitely. You can travel overseas and return to Australia as a permanent resident until the travel component of your visa expires
STAY
  • Permanently
  • Can travel to and from Australia for 5 years from the date the visa is granted
  • If you want to travel after the initial 5-year travel facility:
    1. you will need to apply for and be granted a Resident Return (RRV) so that you can re-enter Australia as a permanent resident
ELIGIBILITY
  • Formerly held a Norfolk Island entry permit
  • Live lawfully in Norfolk Island for 5 of 7 years prior to applying
  • Meet health and character requirements
